2026 UAW International Officer Election
Unofficial 2026 Election Results
The vote count for the 2026 UAW International Officer Election (the “2026 Election”) began on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and was completed on Friday, October 9, 2026. On October 13, 2026, the Monitor announced the unofficial results of the 2026 Election in the Monitor’s Seventeenth Status Report, which is available here. The unofficial results and certain other information from the Seventeenth Status Report are summarized below.
The following candidates were elected in the 2026 Election:
International President: Shawn Fain
International Secretary-Treasurer: Brandon Campbell
International Vice Presidents: Laura Dickerson, Kevin Gotinsky, and Ryan Hiestand
Region 1 Regional Director: LaShawn English
Region 1A Regional Director: Mark DePaoli (uncontested)
Region 1D Regional Director: Scott Zuckschwerdt
Region 2B Regional Director: Dave Green
Region 4 Regional Director: Lucas DeSpain
Region 6 Regional Director: Mike Miller (uncontested)
Region 8 Regional Director: Tim Smith (uncontested)
Region 9 Regional Director: Jimmy Lakeman
In each contested race, the winning candidate received a majority of the vote.
Under the UAW Constitution and the 2026 Election Rules, newly elected International Officers shall be installed within seven (7) days of the announcement of the unofficial results. The UAW plans to hold a swearing-in ceremony and install the newly-elected International Officers on Friday, October 16, 2026.
No Run-Off Election
Under the UAW Constitution and the 2026 Election Rules, a candidate must receive a majority of the vote to be elected; for any race in which no candidate does so, a run-off election by mail is held between the top vote-getters. In anticipation of that possibility, the 2026 Election Rules provided that any run-off election ballots would be mailed in December 2026 and counted in February 2027. Because a candidate received a majority of the vote in each contested race, no run-off election will be required, and all International Officer positions have been filled as reflected above.
Protests and Results Certification
The 2026 Election Rules provide that, upon completion of the vote count, the Monitor will announce the unofficial results of the 2026 Election for any race in which a Candidate received a majority of the vote. As noted above, the Monitor did so in the Seventeenth Status Report. Announcement of the unofficial results does not constitute certification of the outcome. Instead, the Monitor will issue final certification of the results after any 2026 Election-related protests and appeals have been resolved.
The Consent Decree does not require the Department of Labor’s Office of Labor-Management Standards (“OLMS”) or the Court to approve the results of the 2026 Election. Instead, if the Monitor determines that any protested behavior constituted a violation of the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (“LMRDA”) that impacted the outcome of the 2026 Election, the Monitor may decline to certify one or more races and direct a re-run. If, however, the Monitor determines any protest to be without merit, then the complainant, having exhausted their internal remedies, may file a complaint with the Department of Labor under Title IV of the LMRDA, which can consider whether remedial action is appropriate. Notwithstanding the potential for those post-election remedial procedures, under the UAW Constitution, the 2026 Election Rules, and Section 402(a) of the LMRDA, the individuals elected pursuant to the unofficial results will be installed in office within seven days of the announcement of the unofficial results, and as noted above are scheduled to be sworn in on October 16, 2026.
Vote Tally Sheets
Below are links to the vote tally sheets produced by the vote counting machines during the vote count held from October 6, 2026, through October 9, 2026. These tally sheets, each labeled “Unofficial Results,” reflect the unofficial results of the 2026 Election.
The “Ballots Cast–Total” column shows the number of physical ballots scanned and counted for a region. The “Total Votes Cast” column shows the number of votes counted in a particular race. These numbers will often differ because a voter may vote for fewer candidates than there are positions to fill (an undervote) or for more candidates than there are positions to fill (an overvote, in which case no vote is counted in that race). For each race, the “Total Votes Cast,” “Overvotes,” and “Undervotes” columns add up to the “Ballots Cast–Total” number multiplied by the number of positions to be filled in that race. For example, in the race for President, where voters may vote for one candidate, the “Total Votes Cast,” “Overvotes,” and “Undervotes” columns add up to the “Ballots Cast–Total” number. In the race for Vice President, where voters may vote for up to three candidates, the “Total Votes Cast,” “Overvotes,” and “Undervotes” columns add up to three times the “Ballots Cast–Total” number.
